This Cargo Bike was the third addition of the family sharing the same design philosophy with the Hardtail and Downcountry Bike. As Cargo Bikes are amongst the fastest growing bicycle categories this was quite a sensitive decision. Furthermore it seems to be one of the most interesting mobility-solutions out there at the moment. In my Instagram Poll the Cargo-Bike won over Gravel-, City- and Enduro Bike. So, what is this very Cargo Bike all about? The aim was to create a compact Bike that is light and versatile but can handle loads of weight at the same time. One of the biggest problems of Cargo Bikes now is their own weight. Especially motorized ones can be up to 50kg easily. So, my approach was to go Carbon Frame and lightweight, but strong construction. Another important key-point was to have a cargo-bay big enough to handle Eurobox-Size crates of 600x400mm size. As it turns out, that’s the exact size of two crates of your favorite beer as well. To make the Bike accessible for a wide range of people and still only have one size only, the geometry had to be optimized. The seat angle is reasonably flat, the seattube is very long and its diameter is oversized. And thanks to the adjustable Cockpit, everyone between 160 and 190cm can fit comfortably. Further interesting facts: Center-Hub-Steering, actuated by cables. A unique package to accommodate rider and cargo in a very tight space. Das Cargo Bike ist das dritte Mitglied in der Bike-Familie, nach dem Hardtail und Downcoutry Bike, die allesamt dieselbe Designphilosophie teilen. Cargo Bikes sind ohnehin die mitunter am stärksten wachsende Fahrradkategorie am Markt. Auch hat eine Abstimmung auf Instagramm ergeben dass diese wohl spannender sind als Gravel-, City- oder Enduro Bikes. Also worum geht es bei diesem Cargo Bike genau? Ziel war es ein kompaktes Fahrrad zu entwickeln, welches trotzdem einiges an zusätzlichen Gewicht aufnehmen kann. Eines der größten Probleme aktueller Cargo Bikes ist deren Eigengewicht. Gerade motorisierte Cargos wiegen oft bis zu 50Kg und sind dadurch sehr unhandlich. Somit war es mir wichtig nicht nur kompakt, sondern auch leicht zu sein. Trotzdem soll es möglich sein größere Gepäckstücke zu transportieren. Dafür war von Anfang an eine Ladefläche der Größe einer Eurobox von 600x400mm vorgesehen. Zufälligerweise ist das genau die Größe von zwei Bierkisten. Da es sinn macht Cargo Bikes one-size zu machen, müssen kleine wie auch große Menschen genauso komfortabel platz nehmen können. Dafür wurde der Sitzwinkel relativ flach ausgelegt, sowie ein langes Sattelrohr welches auch im Durchmesser größer ist integriert. Dank des zusätzlich einstellbaren Cockpits soll so eine Fahrergröße von 160 bis 190cm möglich sein. Weitere interessante Details sind: eine Nabenlenkung im Vorderrad, welche per Seilzug betätigt wird. Ein daraus entstehendes sehr ungewöhnliches Package welches einen Fahrer sowie viel Gepäck auf engstem Raum zulässt. Eine gedämpfte Gepäck-Ablage mit verschiedenen Aufsätzen und vieles mehr.
