My first project as a development engineer at Simplon was the new Kiaro. The endurance or allroad bike in the lineup. The previous version was outdated in several points. From a design point of view it needed an updated to the new and more modern design language. From a technical point of view there was not enough clearance for modern allroad tires as well as a touch to less compliance. The task was clear, the timeline as well. Just one year from start of the project to start of production. A tough timeline.
The design language at least already was clear but there was still a lot of work to do. Throughout several meetings with product, marketing and management my first design proposals elaborated step by step to a solid design with a technical package underneath. The technical features were also discussed and fixed as following: downtube storage, enough clearance for 38mm tires, fender mounts, integrated seatclamp, etc.

The design overall became more modern and a little edgier. The overall surfacing got cleaner as well with fewer creases and shape shifts. In crucial areas the aerodynamic knowledge that came from the aero roadbike Prode II was also implemented. Especially the forklegs, headtube and downtube area as well as the seatstays have a characteristic kammtail profile. Although being not too extreme.
A crucial point was also the overall stiffness of the frame. Especially in the downtube and headtube area but also for compliance. This goal was achieved throughout several layup developments.

In the end the final product came into production just over a year after the start of the project.
